Arc Aspicio Sponsors Eleventh Search Dog, Raises $110,000 for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation

Arlington, VA, January 1, 2023 – Arc Aspicio raised enough money to sponsor its newest search dog, Archie, the eleventh in its history of supporting the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF). Since 2010, Arc Aspicio has raised more than $110,000 for SDF in its continued effort to train search and rescue dogs. These dogs are paired with handlers and achieve Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) certification so they can deploy to disaster sites nationwide.

Arc Aspicio’s newest search dog is an energetic yellow Lab, who has continued to make impressive progress in training and is on track to join a lifesaving task force at SDF.

“We are excited to welcome Archie to the Search Dog Family and grateful for our long-term partnership with SDF,” says Samantha Uditsky, Arc Aspicio’s Community Involvement Executive. “We cannot wait to see how Archie’s vigor, tenacity, and determination translate into his success as a rescue dog.”

Arc Aspicio started their long-term partnership with SDF in 2010. SDF is a non-profit organization that partners rescue dogs with first responders, provides training and medical care for rescue dogs, and then deploys the search dog teams to natural disasters and other major events. Through partnership with SDF, Arc Aspicio has been able to give once-forgotten dogs an active, happy, and secure life in service to America. This partnership sets an example for animal welfare and disaster preparedness in the community by providing critical, life-saving resources to the nation.

Arc Aspicio’s eleventh search dog, Archie, is an enthusiastic yellow Lab who was donated to Next Step Service Dogs at ten weeks old. The Next Step’s Program Director thought Archie may have search dog potential, and SDF’s evaluation determined Archie had the energy and drive to succeed as a search dog. Since then, Archie has successfully completed complex elements of training. Some of Archie’s training highlights include passing the 30-second bark alert test and human aggression test, progressing through barrel, three-barrel, and rubble searches, and practicing ladders to improve agility and direction-and-control skills.

Currently, SDF has 96 active search teams, 220 total deployments, and 15 task forces. Within the past year, SDF’s search dogs have assisted in many disasters including Hurricane Ian in Florida, a building collapse in Tijuana, and a building fire in Ventura County, California.

Arc Aspicio’s community involvement program has a unique focus on its partnership with SDF because of its love for dogs and passion for emergency management. The company also supports a wide variety of other homeland security-related and local community non-profits. In 2022, Arc Aspicio donated to and participated in the Annual Wreath Laying at Arlington Cemetery, an event that lays wreaths before a tomb to pay formal respects to the sacrifices of America’s veterans. Arc Aspicio also supported food and goods drives for DC Central Kitchen, Second Story, Courtney’s House, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore of Northern Virginia and Rock Creek Conservancy.

In addition to support for the SDF and pro bono projects, Arc Aspicio encourages all employees to give back with eight paid volunteer hours to support any non-profit organization of their choice.
