Community Involvement: Building Connections with my Company and Community

Relocating to a new area can be daunting, especially when you are hoping to meet new people and build your new community. One way I have learned about building a sense of belonging in a new locale is volunteering within that community – which is what made Arc Aspicio special. Joining Arc Aspicio, I discovered the company’s unique initiative of encouraging employees to engage with local organizations and their missions. It became evident to me that I had to be a part of it.

When I relocated to the Washington, DC metro area, my primary goals were to forge new connections and leave a positive mark on the community. Volunteering had always been a top priority for me, but I kept postponing it. During my interviews with Arc Aspicio, I was deeply impressed by their strong commitment to community involvement. This was particularly noteworthy considering that Arc Aspicio is a smaller company. I recognized the significance of this aspect and realized that if I became a part of their team, I would actively engage in volunteering to fulfill that sense of belonging, purpose, and impact I was seeking.

Fast forward one year, and I have not only achieved my goal of getting involved but expanded my social network within the company. I have had the privilege to volunteer with my coworkers at organizations such as Wreaths Across America, where we laid wreaths at Arlington Cemetery, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, where we organized new donations, and Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, where we cleared debris to prepare the garden for spring visitors.

In addition to participating in our planned community events, I have led the company’s Community Involvement strategy, which is helping us diversify our opportunities and engage with our community more effectively.

At Arc Aspicio, community involvement is ingrained in our company culture and is our habit, not just a topic of discussion. Employees receive eight hours of paid volunteer time annually, showing that we provide a choice for how they can contribute to non-profit organizations, whether company-organized or independent.

If you are unsure about where to begin your volunteering journey, our team is readily available to assist and guide you. With our company-organized events, you will have many opportunities to connect with your colleagues and build lasting relationships.

I am delighted to have found a company that places such a strong emphasis on volunteering, which not only aligns with my values but has also significantly facilitated my integration into my new city and allowed me to forge new connections.
